An orientation programme on “Interactive School Engagement”
was held on 8th July 2017 in DPS-JC for those students who are at
the age 17 and above to make aware of the importance of their citizenship and
voting rights as citizens of India. Mr. George Joseph, principal of DPS_JC
inaugurated the seminar, explaining the importance of election procedure in
India.
There after different teachers delivered on different topics
such as:
1. Election of Parliament
2. State Legislative Assembly
3. Office of President of India
4. Why should we vote?
5. What is voter list.
In India, the right to vote is provided by the Constitution
and the Representation of People's Act, 1951, subject to certain disqualifications.
Article 326 of the Constitution guarantees the right to vote to every citizen
above the age of 18.
They also specified about, What is an Overseas (NRI)
Elector? Indian Citizens living outside of the country for work,
education or any
other reason are categorized as
overseas (NRI) electors. Such non-resident
Indian are qualified
as electors only, if they have not required any other Country’s
Citizenship.
The main operators on this special occasion were Mrs.
Sharada Rani (PGT,Eco), Mr. Anish Singh (PGT.com), Mr. Nishit Sharma (PGT
Maths) and Ms. Durga Tiwari (PGT Chemistry). The proramme coordinatorwas Mr.
Abhishek Dewangan (PGT Physics)
